Donovon Samuels appointed minority leader of KSAMC
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tivoli Gardens Division councillor Donovan Samuels has been appointed as minority leader of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).
Kingston Mayor and KSAMC Chairman Andrew Swaby congratulated Samuels and vowed to work alongside him.
In assuming the role, Samuels said: “The hope is that we will work together to ensure that on this side, we put enough pressure on that side.”
He continued, “It is not my intention or intention to be antagonistic in this relationship between us and you, the intention is to work together so that we can ensure that people who benefit are the people we serve”.
Acknowledging the adversarial environment within which councillors work, he said: “There are going to be things which we disagree on and there are going to be arguments for and against, the intention is not to be disrespectful of anyone but to ensure that we put our points across as best as we can to influence policy.”
