KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s national record holder and national champion Ralford Mullings retained his NCAA men’s discus throw title after he threw 65.81m in a competitive event on Friday’s third day of the Outdoors Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

It was first and second for Jamaicans as Racquil Broderick of the University of Southern California was second with a personal best 64.15m.

A third Jamaican, Christopher Young of the University of Alabama, was fifth with a lifetime best 62.30m, and Shamar Reid of Florida State was sixth, also with 62.30m.

Mullings of the University of Oklahoma led from the first round but was passed by Texas Tanner of Air Force before producing the winning throw in the fourth round.

Two other Jamaicans were in the event: Trevor Gunzel of Alabama was 14th with 58.90m, and Chad Hendricks of LSU threw 55.40m.

There was an upset in the 800m where Tyrice Taylor of Arkansas was second in 1:44.30 and his teammate Rivaldo Marshall third with 1:44.93, both beaten by Colin Sahlman of Northern Arizona with 1:44.22.

Demario Prince of Baylor was sixth in the 110m hurdles with 13.25 seconds
