22 killed in 22 fatal crashes in May – ITA
Twenty-two people were killed in 22 fatal crashes in the month of May, according to the latest monthly crash statistics released by the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).
St James with four recorded the most deaths, followed by Westmoreland with three. Hanover, Manchester, Clarendon, St Catherine and St Mary all recorded two fatalities during the month. There was a single road fatality for in Trelawny, St Elizabeth, St Ann, Kingston and St Thomas, while St Andrew and Portland saw no fatalities during the month.
According to the ITA, fatalities have decreased by 29 per cent when compared to May 2025, and fatal crashes decreased by 27 per cent.
During the month, motorcyclists accounted for 32 per cent or seven fatalities; pedestrians accounted for 27 per cent or six fatalities; and private motor vehicle drivers accounted for 18 per cent or four deaths.
Overall, passengers accounted for 18 per cent of fatalities during May 2026. The ITA highlighted that there were no multi-vehicle collisions during May 2026.
