Chabano Nkani previews debut album with Woman of My Dreams
As he prepares to release his first album late this year, Chabano Nkani gives listeners a taste of things to come by releasing the single Woman of My Dreams, which came out in May, and is the latest to hit the market.
A salute to black women, it is written by the Connecticut-based singer who also produced it for his Isle Of Springs Records.
Woman of My Dreams is the follow-up to Close to You, which was released in January. Chabano Nkani told the Observer Online that as an Afro-conscious person, it is important that he does songs that uplift his race.
“I strongly believe that it is incumbent on us as a people to project the group in general and the black woman in particular, in a positive light. The black woman must always be encouraged, inspired, and aspire to reach her true potential,” he said.
The upcoming album will, in some ways, cap a diverse career for Chabano Nkani, who was born Richard Brown in Kingston. He has been recording music for 20 years, releasing songs like Showers of Blessing, Cover Me and Father.
Showers of Blessing was done for In The Streetz Records, which was one of the leading labels in Jamaica in the early 2000s. Chabano Nkani has also produced songs for other artistes including T.O.K, Warrior King, Luciano, Natural Black, Half Pint, Kirk Davis and Hawkeye.
