Music has been an outlet through which recording artiste Vaxzein releases his emotions.

He documents his life’s journey on his debut album The Memoir, which is due out on July 27.

Ahead of the album’s release, Vaxzein has dropped the song titled Thankful, a reggae and dancehall track which speaks about resilience and survival.

“I was inspired to write Thankful after going through a rough time and, in that moment, I realized how lucky I am to be alive and in good health,” the Old Harbour, St Catherine-based singjay told the Jamaica Observer recently. “I am thankful for my children, thankful for all the setbacks and disappointments as they help to carve who I am today.”

Vaxzein hopes that his experiences will uplift others, while channelling his inner feelings in music.

“Music is my way of venting and also my way of teaching and uplifting others simple by putting the pain, joy, and anger to a rhythm. I wanted to share my experience, memories and stories with my fans from just my perspective. And the upcoming album The Memoir was the most fitting title to take on that task,” he shared.

Brawling Boss Productions serves as executive producer of The Memoir, which features production by the likes of Life Code Entertainment, Rajeiro Music, among others.

“The songs were recorded over a span of six months, but it took about a year to have everything mixed, mastered, and ready for distribution,” he said while acknowledging that the process productive.

“The recording process was quite productive. I would say the thing that stood out most during that time was just how easily I could create these tracks from inception to a finished product. The songs speak about love, heartbreak, wins and losses, setbacks and comebacks. So pretty much it’s my life that is on display on these 14 tracks,” he said.

More than just a song, Thankful is a statement of resilience, gratitude, and survival. Built on emotional storytelling and authentic lyricism, the track explores the realities of life’s hardships while embracing the strength it takes to keep moving forward. Through raw melodies and heartfelt delivery, Vaxzein speaks directly to listeners who understand struggle, sacrifice, uncertainty, and perseverance.

“Life can be unpredictable,” Vaxzein explains. “Everybody goes through setbacks, pain, and moments where they feel tested. Thankful is about still finding a reason to give thanks through it all.”

Described as both introspective and cinematic, The Memoir captures different chapters of Vaxzein’s story through a fusion of reggae, dancehall, melodic storytelling, and emotionally driven records.

The album title itself symbolises transparency and truth — a musical autobiography that allows listeners to connect with the man behind the music.

The project will also feature collaborations with 1Flikka, Razandrew, Twinzel, and Dystans, adding even more depth and diversity to the album’s overall sound and storytelling.
