Blue Vinyl explodes late to steal Liu Chie Poo Trophy
Trainer Gary Subratie held his breath. With a quarter-mile left in the $1.25-million Liu Chie Poo Trophy on Saturday, June 13, 2026, he thought his horse was done. But Blue Vinyl waited, waited, then exploded late to snatch victory at the wire.
Champion jockey Raddesh Roman did not move too soon. While Sheer Delight with Evertte Clunis carved out fractions and Supremasi with Tajay Suckoo loomed menacingly in second, Roman kept Blue Vinyl tucked on the inside.
He saved ground around the half-mile (800m) turn and let the others do the work. Supremasi struck the front full of running in deep stretch and with a furlong (200m) out, he looked home dry.
The crowd rose but Roman threaded Blue Vinyl through the tiniest gap on the fence in the closing stages of the race.
Blue Vinyl did not disappoint as he lunged in the last stride and got up by a head.

Final time for the one mile (1,600m) in the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward was 1:37.3 (23.4, 46.1, 1:11.2, 1:24.2). Interestntimesahead finished third.
Subratie exhaled after: “I thought he was done leaving the quarter. But he got the inside run and that was what helped him. He is getting better as he gets older, physical wise.
Roman said he was pleased with Blue Vinyl’s effort.
“Well, the trainer did not have to give me any instruction because I know that horse like my son. The trainer just told me to ride my own race. He is a nice horse, he had his issues and that is his main issue. Once he has gotten over that, he will be one of the good ones,” Roman said.
