Derrick Scott finds strength in Psalm 91 with new single ‘Deliver Me’
Like most people of faith, Derrick Scott looks to the Bible for solace in times of doubt. It was during one such period that he came up with Deliver Me, his latest song.
Released on June 19, it is produced by the gospel singer for his DScott Music label.
“After losing my wife, I was going through a rough time, but my faith in God never wavered. I love reading Psalms, as it gives me some comfort,” Scott told Observer Online. “One night after reading Psalm 91, I got the inspiration to sing it, so I started to sing a few verses every day until it came to fruition and this is the final project.”
Psalm 91 is an expression of resilience. Its first verse, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty”, resonated with the South Florida-based singer, who has been a committed Christian for over 20 years.
Scott’s wife Nadine died in February, 2022. They were married for four years and both hailed from Linstead in St Catherine.
Scott is the younger brother of Freddie McKay, best known for winning the 1976 Festival Song Contest with Dance dis Ya Festival. He started his career as a deejay, performing on sound systems in his hometown and Spanish Town.
As a gospel artiste, Scott has released four albums and singles such as God Answers Prayers.
“I have been a different person since my conversion. A lot of things I used to do, I don’t have the desire to do them anymore and it doesn’t bother me,” he said.
