Of A Revolution returns for $1.75-m Viceroy Trophy at Caymanas Park
Of A Revolution is back and Caymanas Park will feel it this afternoon as the seven-year-old American-bred chestnut horse by MacLean’s Music lines up in the $1.75-million Viceroy Trophy over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).
The feeling is that his connections timed his prep perfectly for this return.
He crushed this exact trip by 3¼ lengths in 1:07.0 on March 7. He is in better shape currently and this distance is right in his wheelhouse. If he breaks sharp, the Anthony Nunes trainee will try to run rivals off their legs.
But he won’t get it easy. Pack Plays has receipts. The five-year-old foreigner by Stay Thirsty defeated Of A Revolution in January going 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m), and he ran brave last time too. On May 2 over 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight, he finished second by 9 lengths behind Legacy Isle’s.
It looked like a beating on paper, but trainers know a “brave” second beats a soft win. He knows Of A Revolution’s speed and he knows how to beat it. The question: did that hard May 2 run take too much out of him.
Sir Don did have a day he’d rather forget on June 6 where he finished in eighth place by over 40 lengths in the Eros Trophy behind Legacy Isle’s record run over 7 furlongs (1,400m). Back to 5½ furlongs he’s more comfortable, but Sir Don will be doing well just to follow the top two home.
Wall Street Trader plugs on and looks the logical one for third money. The seven-year-old gelding hasn’t been embarrassing anyone and will be grinding late while the fireworks happen up front.
Neo Star and Supremasi complete the field. Neo Star is here to make up numbers, and Supremasi, on current form, does not have a realistic winning chance.
This Viceroy Trophy will be decided in the first two furlongs (400m). If Of A Revolution gets an easy lead like March 7, Pack Plays must come get him and he is not known as a run-on horse. If Pack Plays presses him early, it becomes a war of attrition and the best horse on the day wins.
Of A Revolution proved he owns this trip. Pack Plays proved he can beat this horse. Only one thing did not happen yet: both of them at 100 per cent over 5½ furlongs in the same race.
