JAMAICAN-BORN transformational leader Dr Tashni- Ann Dubroy has been appointed chief business officer of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), one of the United States’s most respected and impactful organisations dedicated to student success, scholarships, and strengthening historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Her appointment marks another proud milestone for Jamaica and the Caribbean diaspora, placing a Jamaican-born executive at the highest levels of an institution that has helped generations of students access life-changing education opportunities.

In her new executive role, Dr Dubroy will work closely with UNCF President and CEO Dr Michael Lomax and board chair Milton H Jones, Jr to strengthen operations, accelerate innovation, expand fund-raising efforts, and increase the organisation’s reach and impact.

For more than 80 years, UNCF has transformed lives through education advocacy and philanthropy. Over the last century and a half, Caribbean students and families have also benefited from the broader movement to expand access to higher education, scholarships, and leadership opportunities connected to black institutions in the United States. Many Caribbean nationals have attended HBCUs, building careers in medicine, law, business, engineering, education, and public service.

Dubroy’s leadership now creates new momentum for deeper ties between Jamaica, the Caribbean diaspora, and top HBCUs across the United States. Her appointment carries added significance for Jamaica; as a Jamaican-born executive with first-hand knowledge of Caribbean ambition and diaspora achievement, Dubroy is expected to be a strong advocate for pathways that connect talented Caribbean students with world-class HBCU education, scholarships, mentorship, and professional networks.

Her presence at UNCF also reinforces the growing influence of Caribbean professionals shaping major institutions across the United States.

Dubroy previously served as the 17th president of Shaw University, making history as one of the youngest university presidents in the United States. She later became executive vice president and chief operating officer at Howard University, one of America’s premier HBCUs, where she oversaw strategic operations including technology, facilities, human resources, public safety, and enrolment management.

Dubroy holds a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from North Carolina State University, an MBA from Rutgers University, and a bachelor of science degree from Shaw University. Her journey stands as a powerful reminder that Jamaican talent continues to compete, lead, and transform organisations on the global stage.
