Route To Love
It is often said that good things come to those who wait. For Lushane Cox and Nicholas Beckford, the wait was simply part of the design. What began as a fleeting high school acquaintance blossomed into a solid partnership.

Their decades-long love story traces back to a serendipitous encounter at a Cross Roads bus stop in 1999. Accompanied by a mutual friend, Nicholas, a Kingston College student, caught his first glimpse of Lushane from St Hugh’s High School, and was immediately spellbound.
“It was love at first sight for me. The moment I saw her, I said to a friend that I had to know that girl. It just so happened that he knew her from primary school so he introduced us,” Nicholas shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV). “My first impression of Lushane was how beautifully poised she was. She carried herself with such grace, a quality I admired.”
That chance encounter marked the beginning of a long-lasting friendship, though for years it never quite crossed into romance. Yet, patience ultimately had its reward. By 2016 that steady, slow-burning friendship began to simmer.

“We kept in touch throughout, but only on a friendly basis, and then after all of his previous advances were thwarted we finally started a relationship. I knew from then there wasn’t really any going back to being just friends,” Lushane said.
At that point, the trajectory was set. On April 13, 2025, the slow-burning romance reached its perfect crescendo when Nicholas proposed to Lushane.

“With all her siblings gathered at her parents’ home, it felt like the perfect moment to propose. I was especially determined to do it that day because her sister, Donna, had just returned from overseas after a few years away. Donna had been instrumental in keeping us connected so having her there made the moment complete. I just knew she had to be present for it,” Nicholas said. “I put on a love song, looked her in the eyes, went down one knee and said, ‘It’s about time.’ I actually forgot to ask, will you marry me, in all the commotion. But she accepted anyway!”

On April 4, 2026, Nicholas and Lushane exchanged vows at the Portmore New Testament Church of God. The elegant setting was courtesy of Pollyanna Caterers and Banqueters. Escorted by her brother Noel Cox and sister Donna Cox-Cole, Lushane was a vision of bridal perfection as she made her way up the aisle to the strains of Jennifer Hudson’s Giving Myself. The wedding was officiated by Pastor Donovan Knight.
With vows exchanged, the festivities shifted to Pollyanna, where family and friends gathered for the reception. Dinner gave way to guests offering stirring toasts that celebrated Nicholas and Lushane’s bond. Following a spirited round of the newly-weds game and the cutting of their two-tiered wedding cake from Sugar Junkie JA, Nicholas and Lushane shared their first dance as husband and wife to Musiq Soulchild’s Don’t Change.
