KINGSTON, Jamaica — What started as routine shopping has earned two National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCBJ) customers the opportunity to attend the FIFA World Cup, thanks to the bank’s “Big Baller” promotion powered by Visa.

According to a release issued Thursday, the winners, Olivette Lue-Nicholson and Robin McFayden, secured the grand prizes through everyday purchases made using their eligible NCB Visa credit cards.

The winners were officially recognised during a celebratory event hosted by NCBJ at Jamaica Food and Drink Kitchen in Kingston on Tuesday, June 23.

For 58-year-old Olivette Lue-Nicholson of Portland, the winning transaction came while preparing for her granddaughter’s butterfly-themed first birthday party.

“I wasn’t making an effort to enter,” she shared. “I was just purchasing a lot of things for my granddaughter’s butterfly-themed first birthday.”

Lue-Nicholson will travel to the tournament with her son, Frentz. The trip carries special significance for the pair, as Frentz was named after France’s 1998 World Cup-winning team. They are now hoping to see France make another memorable run at football’s biggest tournament.

Second-place winner, Robin McFayden, sees his win as “cashback” on his wife’s many purchases using his credit card.

“My wife likes to buy things,” he said with a laugh. “That’s why she’s coming with me on this trip. It’s as much her prize as it is mine. She’s already planning matching outfits for us.”

A lifelong supporter of Brazil, McFayden said the experience fulfils a dream rooted in childhood memories of playing football with friends and imagining they were legendary Brazilian footballer Pelé.

The 62-year-old businessman also praised the benefits of using his credit card for everyday purchases.

“I never carry cash. I always have my card with me,” he said. “I enjoy earning rewards and using them in different ways, and this win definitely gives me another reason to keep doing that.”

The first phase of NCB’s Big Baller promotion ran from March 19 to April 30, 2026. Customers earned entries by spending $25,000 or more in a single transaction using eligible NCB Visa credit cards.

The World Cup prize packages include airfare, hotel accommodation, match tickets, ground transportation, and exclusive Visa hospitality experiences for two.

The promotion remains open through July 8, 2026, under Big Baller Phase 2, which offers eligible NCB Visa credit cardholders the chance to win one of three FIFA finals watch-party kits valued at more than $300,000 each.
