Never give up says Asafa Powell as Observer Food Awards celebrates resilience
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Sprint superstar Asafa Powell is live at the Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards, fully repping the theme of resilience.
The sub-ten king says that for him, resilience means never giving up.
“You know, no matter how tough the battle may be, you keep fighting through it, and I don’t think it’s getting tougher than what happened last year,” Powell said, referring to the passage of Hurricane Melissa in October 2025.
Powell, who participated in relief efforts along with his wife Alyshia Miller-Powell after the hurricane, said for the couple: “It’s just for us to keep helping people, motivating people to keep pushing through.”
As he snapped a photo with his wife at the bountiful bread basket station at the awards, Powell told Observer Online that one Jamaican meal that represents resilience for him is the national dish ackee and saltfish, while for Miller-Powell it’s “definitely mackerel!”
