Nautical Star demolishes field in SVL Anniversary Trophy
In a devastating front-running display, Nautical Star ran his rivals into the ground to capture the $1.4-million Supreme Ventures Limited Anniversary Trophy at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
With Omar Walker aboard for trainer Anthony Nunes, the six-year-old American-bred runner broke sharply and seized command from the gate. He set a steady gallop through the early stages then kicked away from the field, turning for home and never let up.
Nautical Star crossed the wire 7½ lengths clear of stablemate Barnaby with Reyan Lewis, while Don Kwesi and
Demar Williams held third. The winning time was a sharp 1:35.3 for the mile — fractions of 24.4, 46.1, 1:09.4, 1:22.1 in the Open Allowance feature.
It was the third winner on the day for Nunes, who earlier saddled Kusmi (Tajay Suckoo) in the seventh race, and
Another Wow (Reyan Lewis) in the 11th and final event.
Racing continues today.
