LOS ANGELES, United States — As the entertainment industry gathered to celebrate black excellence at the 2026 BET Awards, Jamaican dancehall proudly had a seat at the table through international hitmaker Ding Dong, who stood as the night’s leading representative for the genre.

While reggae and dancehall continue to influence music, fashion, and culture worldwide, representation at premier events like the BET Awards and BET Experience remains vital. Visibility creates opportunities—not only for artists, but also for the executives, producers, media personalities, and creatives working to elevate Caribbean culture on the global stage.

Also representing the Caribbean throughout BET Awards weekend were media executive and CODA Founder & CEO Lexi Chow, comedian and media personality Pretty Vee, producer DJ Mac, and Crash Dummyy.

Reggae was also represented through the Marley legacy as YG Marley, Selah Marley, and Zion Marley joined an all-star tribute honouring their mother, Lauryn Hill, who received the inaugural Living Legend Icon Award for her extraordinary contributions to music and culture.

The Caribbean’s presence extended beyond Jamaica, with Trinidadian actor Rob Riley also attending, highlighting the region’s growing influence across music, film, television, and entertainment.

For Jamaica, Ding Dong’s appearance carried particular significance. As one of dancehall’s most recognisable global ambassadors, his presence ensured the genre remained visible on one of entertainment’s biggest stages.

“Representation is about more than walking a red carpet,” said Chow. “It’s about building relationships, opening doors, creating opportunities, and making sure Caribbean talent has a voice in the global entertainment industry. As black culture continues to shape the world, the Caribbean has always been a driving force behind that influence. Moments like the BET Awards remind us that showing up, being present, and occupying these spaces truly matters.”
