JUTC to discontinue Sunday operations on Mandeville to Kingston route as of July 5
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) will be discontinuing Sunday operations on Route 512 between Mandeville and downtown Kingston as of Sunday, July 5.
The state-owned bus company says the decision follows a comprehensive review of the route’s operational performance, including passenger demand and revenue generation.
“The assessment revealed consistently low passenger usage on Sundays, with some trips recording as few as seven passengers and others carrying only two passengers,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
“At JUTC, we continuously evaluate our services to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our commuters while operating as efficiently as possible. The decision to discontinue Sunday operations on Route 512 was made following careful analysis, which showed consistently low passenger demand,” said JUTC Corporate Communications Manager, Shantole Thompson.
“While we understand this change may affect some commuters, it allows us to better allocate our resources to areas where demand is greatest and continue providing safe, reliable, and sustainable public transportation,” she added.
Thompson said JUTC remains committed to regularly reviewing its network and making data-driven operational decisions that enhance service delivery while ensuring the responsible use of public resources.
