Is there a parting of ways involving Anthony Nunes, Raddesh Roman?
Two striking observations emerged from Caymanas Park over the weekend of Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, June 28, 2026 — Anthony “Baba” Nunes was untouchable in the trainer’s standings and Raddesh Roman was nowhere to be seen on his mounts.
The Nunes barn saddled five winners across the two days, yet none carried his longtime stable jockey. Instead, a rotation of riders capitalised — and Roman was absent from every Nunes runner.
On Saturday, Nunes fired a triple, Kusmi guided by Tajay Suckoo, Nautical Star ridden to perfection by Omar Walker, and Another Wow partnered by Reyan Lewis. The performance underlined the depth of his stable, but also raised eyebrows as Roman, who has been Nunes’ primary rider for the past two years, was bypassed on all three.
The pattern repeated on Sunday. Nunes again topped the trainers’ championship with Miss Grove for Tajay Suckoo and Dutchess for Omar Walker. Roman’s absence extended to every Nunes entrant across both race days.
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide cannot confirm a definitive split between Nunes and Roman, but the evidence points to a clear misconnection. The trend actually began a week earlier on Saturday, June 20, when Nunes saddled another triple — Bowmore with Suckoo, Nebuchadnezzar with Eric Haughton, and Sir Don with Walker.
Roman’s only mount for the stable that day was Dark Authority in race nine. For a combination that has dominated Caymanas for two seasons, the change is stark. No official word has been given by either camp.
Again, over this Jamaica St Leger weekend, Roman is also absent from Nunes’ runners.
Yet the facts are plain: Roman’s absence from Nunes’ mounts is no coincidence. Whether this signals a permanent parting of ways or a temporary adjustment remains to be seen. For now, the situation is unfolding in full view of the racing public — and Nunes’ winners keep coming, just with different names in the irons.
