Woman shot dead in bizarre incident involving boyfriend in Parottee

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Police are trying to determine the circumstances which led to a woman being shot dead in Hill Top district, Parottee, St Elizabeth on Friday morning.

Police named the woman as Anishka Thompson, a resident of New Forest in Manchester.

The incident reportedly happened about 8:30 am.

A highly placed police source said Thompson’s 38-year-old boyfriend told detectives that he was getting ready for work when he took his licensed firearm from a safe and placed it on a table.

The man reportedly told detectives that he was loading the firearm when Thompson playfully picked up the firearm and in an attempt to take it from her he heard a loud explosion.

The injured woman was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police are awaiting an autopsy and ballistics examination to determine whether the incident was an accidental shooting. The incident has so far been classified as a death investigation.
