Campion College Dance Society presents Surge: The power to rise
Campion College Dance Society returns to the stage this weekend with its 16th Season of Dance, Surge: The power to rise, a showcase of movement and artistic excellence in dance.
The July 10 to 12 run at the Little Theatre will feature an exciting collection of works by some of Jamaica’s most respected choreographers, including Mattu Perry, Shavaughn Byndloss, Oraine Frater, Orville McFarlane, Renee McDonald, and Artistic Director Dwright Wright.
The production will present a repertoire comprised largely of new works, offering audiences fresh perspectives and compelling performances from the talented dancers of Campion College.
Through a range of styles and choreographic voices, Surge explores themes of growth, courage, identity, and triumph, inviting audiences to reflect on their own capacity to overcome challenges and embrace new possibilities.
New work Aftermath was choreographed in honour of the resilience of Jamaicans after the passage of Hurricane Melissa which devastated the island last October.
As part of its long-standing commitment to community outreach, the opening performance on Friday, July 10, was once again dedicated to children living in State care and children’s homes across Jamaica. The initiative has become a cherished tradition of the dance society, providing hundreds of young people with the opportunity to experience the performing arts in a welcoming and uplifting environment.
The Campion College Dance Society continues to provide a platform for artistic growth, discipline, and creative expression while showcasing the exceptional talent of Jamaica’s young performers.
