One missing after two fishing boats capsize off Suriname’s coast
PARAMARIBO, Suriname (CMC) — The search is continuing for one person reported missing after two fishing boats capsized in separate incidents off the coast of Suriname over the weekend, according to the police.
They said they had first received a report last Friday that a fishing vessel had overturned at sea, but were unable to determine the exact location of the incident or how many people were on board. The report was made by the father of one of the occupants.
The Maritime Police later confirmed that two separate fishing boats had capsized and that the exact locations of the incidents remain unknown. According to maritime authorities, all four people aboard the first vessel were rescued safely.
The second boat was carrying at least three people. Two occupants were rescued, while one person remains missing. The search efforts are ongoing.
The authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved.
Police and maritime officials are continuing their search for the missing individual while investigating the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
