THE Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) has recommended psychosocial interventions to assist two teen girls at the centre of a probe into allegations surrounding a 61-year-old musician who had allegedly lured them to a guest house for sexual favours earlier this month.

The CPSFA said following its probe into the matter the two teens, who the Jamaica Observer understands are students of a secondary school in St Thomas, could need help with the trauma stemming from not only this incident, but any previous trauma they may have faced.

Responding to queries from the Observer, the CPSFA said its investigation is focused on ascertaining “the welfare of the minors and determine whether a child protection response is required”, as well as to “safeguard the well-being of any children who may also reside in the homes of these minors”.

In noting that it is limited in how it could assist the minors since they are not currently in its custody, the CPSFA said it has interviewed the parents of both children involved in this incident but refused to divulge further as it pointed out that its investigation is ongoing.

Asked whether the teens were at any point wards of the State, or deemed in need of care and protection, the CPSFA said in accordance with Section 7 of the Child Care and Protection Act (CCPA 2004) it was unable to share information regarding reports received of children in need of care and protection, as well as any interventions these children may subsequently receive from it.

The man who the police have named as Keeble Mclune, a musician of Knights Ville, Yallahs, St Thomas, was charged with rape, sexual intercourse with a person under 16 years, use of a firearm to commit a scheduled offence, and assault at common law, following the incident which unfolded at a guest house in Morant Bay on July 5.

Reports from the Morant Bay police are that Mclune, on several occasions, allegedly assaulted the girls then gave them money in return.

It was further reported that Mclune met with one of the girls, and allegedly held a firearm to her head and threatened to harm her and her family if his demands were not met.

On Sunday, July 5, about 3:00 am, Mclune reportedly took both girls to a guest house in Morant Bay where he again assaulted them.

It was alleged that both girls then attacked and stabbed him multiple times, resulting in him fleeing the scene. The incident was reported to the police, and Mclune was later arrested and charged after a question-and-answer session. His court date is being finalised.

The Observer understands that the teens are now in the custody of the Department of Correctional Services.
