When Trinbagonian style aribiter and designer Peter Elias’s daughter, Alexandra Nicole Elias, married Michael Andrew Gabriel on June 27, 2026, it was always destined to be a celebration at which the fashion would be every bit as memorable as the love story. Dressed in a custom Naeem Khan creation inspired by the timeless elegance of American actress and princess of Monaco Grace Kelly, Alexandra delivered a bridal moment that balanced couture craftsmanship with modern romance.

The romance, however, began long before the dress.

Although their families had been close friends in Trinidad for decades, Alexandra and Michael’s own love story blossomed from a quiet friendship during the COVID-19 lockdowns before flourishing while they were both studying in New York City.

Their shared appreciation for history made Stollmeyer’s Castle (Killarney) in Port of Spain the perfect setting for Michael’s proposal on July 30, 2025. There, the chief investment officer and managing partner of Samaan Capital Management Ltd surrounded Alexandra with hundreds of roses before asking her to spend forever with him — a grand gesture that beautifully foreshadowed the regal celebration to come.

Couture Before the Ceremony

The engagement celebrations unfolded six months later with an intimate soirée at Alexandra’s grandparents’ residence in St Clair. Held beneath the stars on January 3, 2026, the gathering embraced understated elegance, where candlelit tables, lush gardens, and thoughtful details created an atmosphere of effortless sophistication.

For the occasion, Alexandra turned to Naeem Khan, wearing a custom design inspired by one of the couturier’s early bridal creations. Eschewing traditional ivory in favour of a romantic sage-green palette, the look was perfectly attuned to its garden setting. Equal parts couture and contemporary, the gown foreshadowed the refined, fashion-led aesthetic that would become the signature of the couple’s wedding celebrations.

The Making of a Modern Grace Kelly

When June 27, 2026 arrived, Alexandra Nicole Elias and Michael Andrew Gabriel’s wedding unfolded as a masterclass in timeless elegance — where romance, heritage, and couture craftsmanship met in perfect harmony.

At the Church of the Assumption, Alexandra walked up the aisle for a nuptial Mass celebrated by Father Ronald Mendes, Father Emmanuel Pierre, and Father Leslie Tang Kai, beneath a breathtaking floral installation by Sandra Debs of Sandee’s. Inspired by Alexandra’s love of the outdoors and her affinity for colour, the floral design transformed the sacred space into an enchanting garden tableau, with delicate yet abundant blooms creating a setting that felt both organic and exquisitely refined.

For Alexandra, the wedding was an extension of her personal style language — a celebration of artistry, fashion, and the details that make a moment unforgettable. With a lifelong appreciation for design, influenced in part by her father’s own sartorial sensibility, the bride approached every element of the celebration with a couture mindset.

The centrepiece was her custom Naeem Khan bridal gown — a collaboration with the Indian-American designer that paid homage to one of fashion’s most enduring icons: Grace Kelly. The vision was a modern interpretation of classic bridal glamour — regal, yet effortless; dramatic yet impossibly light.

Crafted from layers of silk tulle and organza, the gown achieved an ethereal volume without weight, allowing Alexandra to move with grace. Rather than traditional beadwork, every embellishment was hand embroidered, creating a sense of texture and artistry reminiscent of haute couture. The accompanying veil mirrored the gown’s intricate detailing, extending the romantic silhouette with an air of timeless grandeur.

The bride’s accessories carried an equally personal significance. Alexandra designed her own tiara, a bespoke creation intended to transcend the wedding day and become a treasured family heirloom — a future symbol of love and legacy for generations to come.

Michael’s wedding-day look embraced understated sophistication. His custom black tailored tuxedo featured refined, subtle details that complemented Alexandra’s couture aesthetic while reflecting his own classic sense of style.

Together, the couple embodied a modern vision of wedding elegance — where fashion was not simply worn, but thoughtfully curated; where every stitch, bloom and detail told the story of a love built on tradition, artistry, and forever.

Flower girls in Meiling…

No detail was overlooked, including those for the youngest members of the bridal party. Alexandra enlisted Trinidad and Tobago’s pre-eminent designer Meiling Esau to create bespoke looks for her flower girls, each one conceived with the same couture sensibility as the bride’s own ensemble. Crafted from luminous silk taffeta and weightless silk tulle, the dresses showcased Esau’s signature heirloom fagoting stitch at the empire line — a painstaking hand-sewn technique synonymous with the house. Delicate hand-made, hand-dyed florals were artfully scattered across each silhouette and echoed on tiara-like bandeaus, lending the collection the romance of an English garden in bloom. The result was unmistakably Meiling — timeless, impeccably crafted and imbued with a sense of heirloom beauty that transcends the occasion itself.

Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the Hyatt Regency Trinidad Ballroom for the reception.

The celebration concluded with one of the Caribbean’s most beloved wedding traditions: “Brown Girl in the Ring.” As the iconic folk song filled the ballroom, Alexandra stepped into the centre of a circle formed by her bridesmaids and loved ones, who gathered around her, holding the sweeping train of her gown as she danced.
