Champion jockey Raddesh Roman escapes serious injury in Caymanas fall
Saturday, July 25, 2026 started with a scare at Caymanas Park.
In the second race, Jamaica’s reigning champion jockey Raddesh Roman was aboard Midnight Galaxy when disaster struck in a split second.
Unseated, he tumbled to the track in an incident that also involved Demar Williams on Ruby’s Light and Tyrese Anderson on Bubblingbrownsugar.
Williams and Anderson were checked and cleared to continue riding but Roman’s fall looked worse. As a precaution, he was stood down for the rest of the day and rushed to hospital for scans.
The racing fraternity waited for updates and the news finally came: No broken bones; X-rays and checks were clear.
The champion had escaped the worst. The jockey is nursing pain in his shoulders and doctors have told him to rest and recover at home. Before he can climb back aboard, Roman will need medical clearance. Once he gets it, it goes to the operating stewards.
For now though, it’s just relief. The champ is okay.
