The Hi-Pro Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza returns to the Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show on Sunday, August 2, with organisers promising an evening of worship, inspiration, and fellowship for Jamaica’s farming community and the wider public.

The event will begin at 6:00 pm at the Denbigh Agricultural Showground in Clarendon and will feature performances from Kevin Downswell, Johnmark Wiggan, Prince Saj, Jabez, The Brown Trio, Sister Nancy, and Jodian Pantry, while Pastor Chris Morgan will deliver the word.

Admission is $1,500 for adults and $600 for children.

Now a long-standing fixture of the Denbigh programme, the Gospel Extravaganza has been ministering to patrons for more than two decades.

Director of Glory Music Tommy Cowan said the initiative began through a shared vision to ensure the word of God remained an important part of Jamaica’s premier agricultural show.

“For over 20 years, from the early days when Allan Rickards was head of the All-Island Cane Farmers Association, we worked together to bring the gospel to Denbigh. Since then we have worked with several presidents and CEOs of the Jamaica Agricultural Society and the Jamaica Broilers Group, who eventually took responsibility for ensuring the word of God is shared among the farmers of Jamaica under the title Hi-Pro Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza,” Cowan told the Jamaica Observer.

This year’s line-up, he explained, was prayerfully selected to deliver a message of hope and encouragement.

“There is a time and season for everything. God, in His wisdom, uses people at a certain time for His purpose and glory. We’ve looked at what God is doing, where He is working, and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit chose this line-up because it fits the purpose and intention of the event. Our aim is to bring excellence, but above all, true worship, so that people leave with more positive feelings, greater love, and respect for each other, and that those who have never known Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour will come to know Him,” he said.

Cowan noted that this year’s staging carries particular significance as many members of the agricultural sector continue to recover from the effects of Hurricane Melissa.

“My hope is that the farming community will be more confident in the fact and knowledge that ‘the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof’. Especially after the experience of Melissa, all is not lost. God’s promise is that He will never leave us nor forsake us, and the best is yet to come,” he said.

He added that while the evening promises high-quality musical performances, its greatest purpose is to offer spiritual renewal.

The event is presented through a partnership involving Hi-Pro, Denbigh ‘72, the Jamaica Agricultural Society, the Jamaica Broilers Group, and Glory Music.
