SABRINA Lyn closed her Commonwealth Games swimming campaign with a fifth-place finish in the women’s 50m breaststroke final, swimming a personal best 30.95 seconds, just 0.09 seconds off the bronze medal on Tuesday.

It was Lyn’s second individual final of the week, and she was also part of the mixed 4x100m medley relay team that broke the national record twice on its way to a seventh-place finish in the final.

Lyn, who also contested the 100m breaststroke final, was just beaten to the wall as South Africa’s Lara van Niekerk won in 30.43 seconds, beating Australia’s Sienna Toohey, who clocked 30.54 seconds. England’s Imogen Clarke and Canada’s Sophie Angus tied for the bronze in 30.86 seconds.

The mixed medley team of Collin McKenzie (backstroke), Kito Campbell (breaststroke), Jessica Calderbank (butterfly) and Lyn (freestyle) broke the national record when they qualified in 3:58.00 for third in their first-round heat.

They lowered it further in the final when they clocked 3:57.42 for seventh place.

McKenzie was also eighth in his men’s 50m butterfly first-round heat in 24.81 seconds.

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s women’s 3×3 basketball team qualified for the semi-finals after edging England 21-20 in a play-off on Tuesday.

Jamaica will face Australia in one semi-final today, while Uganda and New Zealand will meet in the other.

Tiffany Reynolds scored seven points to lead Jamaica, while Carissa Robinson and Christeina Bryan each scored five points and Teneisia Brown four.

Shanice Beckford-Norton scored a game-high nine points for England, with Georgia Gayle scoring six and Cheridene Green five.
