MONTEGO BAY, St James — Dream Entertainment Limited, St James Municipal Corporation, and Jamaica Constabulary Force say all systems are in place for Dream Wknd’s inaugural staging in Montego Bay.

With months of planning and cross-agency collaboration will culminate in what is expected to be one of Jamaica’s largest entertainment events of the summer.

More than 30,000 patrons are expected to descend on the tourism capital over the coming days for the festival’s first staging outside its long-time home of Negril, bringing a significant boost to the local economy while showcasing Montego Bay’s growing capacity to host major international events.

Chairman of Dream Entertainment Kamal Bankay said organisers have spent months working alongside government agencies, venue operators, and service providers to ensure every aspect of the festival is ready ahead of Thursday’s opening.

“We have been working very closely with the venues and the planning authorities in St James,” Bankay said. “That includes the municipal corporation, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Ministry of Health, the Jamaica Fire Brigade, and the other agencies responsible for issuing the relevant approvals.”

He said the work has extended beyond regulatory requirements to include detailed coordination with venue operators and event partners responsible for delivering the festival experience.

“Based on where we are now, all of those preparations have been completed and the necessary systems are in place, so we’re ready to welcome patrons when the events begin on Thursday,” he said.

SSP Eron Samuels shares some of the security measures that have been put in place to facilitate Dream Wknd’s move to MoBay.

Bankay added that while Dream Wknd will deliver its signature entertainment experience, the festival also provides visitors with an opportunity to experience Montego Bay beyond the event venues.

“When you come to Montego Bay, just know that it’s a great city in its own right, and Dream Wknd is really there to elevate what’s already on offer,” he said. “Visitors can enjoy the city’s hotels, restaurants, beaches, and attractions throughout the weekend.”

Mayor Richard Vernon described Dream Wknd’s arrival in Montego Bay as a significant milestone for the city, saying it reinforces its standing as one of the Caribbean’s leading tourism and entertainment destinations.

“Dream Wknd’s expansion to Montego Bay is a landmark moment for Jamaica’s tourism capital,” Vernon said. “It affirms our city’s reputation as a premier entertainment destination in the Caribbean and demonstrates confidence in our ability to continue hosting world-class events, even during our most challenging times.”

Vernon said his team has worked closely with partners to ensure the city is prepared to welcome the influx of visitors. Traffic management plans have been finalised, public health protocols activated, and emergency contingencies established to support the festival weekend.

“Our hospitality sector has mobilised to meet demand, while local businesses are prepared… This readiness ensures that Dream Wknd will be a successful event and drive sustained economic activity across Montego Bay,” said Vernon.

Senior Superintendent Eron Samuels, commander of the St James Police Division, said the police have developed a comprehensive security plan in partnership with other stakeholders.

“Our objective is to create a safe environment where patrons can enjoy the festivities while residents and visitors continue to feel secure,” Samuels said.

He encouraged patrons to celebrate responsibly by planning their transportation in advance, avoiding drinking and driving, securing their personal belongings, remaining aware of their surroundings and following the instructions of police officers, event security personnel and emergency responders.

“Our message is simple: Enjoy the event, make lasting memories, but make safety your priority,” he said.

In addition to extensive logistical preparations, organisers say patrons can also expect an elevated festival experience through the involvement of Dream WKND’s major brand partners, each bringing unique activations designed to complement the music and entertainment.

Red Stripe and its portfolio of brands will deliver vibrant social spaces across four signature events: Guinness at Dream Live, Casamigos at Daydreams, Red Stripe at YUSH, and Smirnoff at Igloo. Meanwhile, the Campari Group will bring premium activations, signature cocktail experiences, and interactive brand engagements to Wet ‘N Wild with Magnum, Foul Play with J Wray & Nephew, and Xodus Remedy presented by Campari.

Festivalgoers can also look forward to high-energy experiences from Boom Energy Drink, whose touchpoints are designed to keep the excitement going throughout the weekend. Mother’s will round out the culinary experience with specially curated dishes prepared throughout the weekend, providing hearty, flavourful meal options to keep patrons fuelled while they enjoy the overall festival atmosphere.
