Man killed, firearm seized in Harbour View shootout
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with police in Bayshore Park, Harbour View, St Andrew, on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Marcus Russell, also known as “Yuh Know” of Bayshore Park. Police reported that an illegal firearm was recovered during the incident.
According to police reports, at approximately 6:15 am, officers were carrying out an intelligence-led operation under the authority of a search warrant when they arrived at a premises.
Investigators said Russell looked through a window curtain, shouted expletives at the officers and fled by jumping through a bathroom window. He allegedly ran through several properties; however cops pursued and intercepted him along a nearby track.
It was further reported that Russell jumped over a wall onto the roadway and again fired at the police. The police returned fire, during which the alleged gunman fell to the ground, clutching the firearm.
The firearm was retrieved from the injured man and discovered to be a Glock pistol with a magazine containing four live rounds.
The now-deceased was assisted by the police and taken to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police said intelligence indicated that Russell, who also resided at Goldsmith Villa in August Town, St Andrew, was a member of the Bayshore Park Gang and was involved in contract killings.
The intelligence, the police also shared, implicated him in several murders and shootings within the Bayshore Park community.
