Megan Simmonds and Kerrica Hill both qualified for Thursday’s final of the 100m hurdles at the 23rd Commonwealth Games at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, Scotland.

In addition to the 100m hurdles, Jamaicans will also be represented in two other finals—the women’s discus throw and the women’s triple jump.

In the semis on Thursday, Simmonds was second in her race in a wind-aided 12.55 seconds (4.3m/s) to qualify for her third straight Commonwealth Games final, beaten to the finish line by 2022 silver medallist Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas, who clocked 12.39 seconds.

Hill was third in her race in a wind-aided 12.69 seconds (3.8 m/s), as two-time defending champion Tobi Amusan of Nigeria ran 12.19 seconds, with South Africa’s Marione Fourie second at 12.50 seconds.

Also on Thursday, Jordan Scott and Dejanae Oakley led the qualifying for the finals of the men’s triple jump and women’s 400m, respectively.

Scott, who is the number one ranked athlete, needed just two attempts to book his place with a wind-aided 16.56m (2.5m/s).

Oakley, who drew a bye through the first round, ran 51.18 seconds to beat Kingston-based Sada Williams of Barbados, the defending champion who ran 51.85 seconds.

Jamaica’s other two representatives, Shana Kaye Anderson, who was fourth in her race in 52.87 seconds, and Leah Anderson, who was sixth in 54.15 seconds, failed to advance.

There was further disappointment in the men’s 400m semi-finals when Antonio Watson was disqualified after his semi-final race.

Zandrion Barnes is the only Jamaican advancing to the final after he ran 45.38 seconds, while Delano Kennedy was fifth in his semi-final and failed to make progress.

Meanwhile, Elvis Graham threw 65.07m after two fouls in the qualifying for the men’s javelin throw and was 16th overall, failing to advance to the final.
