Eighty-three people were killed in 75 fatal crashes during the April to June quarter of 2026, according to crash statistics released on Thursday by the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).

A breakdown by parish shows that with 10 deaths, St Catherine fared the worst, while Portland was the safest parish during the period under review with two fatalities.

Westmoreland and Manchester had nine fatalities each, St James had seven, and Hanover six. Trelawny and Kingston each recorded five deaths. Three parishes – St Andrew, St Mary and St Thomas – saw four road deaths; St Elizabeth and Clarendon each had three.

The ITA noted that fatalities decreased by 12 per cent and fatal crashes were down 10 per cent when compared to the second quarter in 2025. It said that as at the second quarter, fatalities for the year are projected to decrease by eight per cent when compared with 2025.

Meanwhile, 22 pedestrians, 21 drivers of private motor vehicles, 20 motorcyclists, and 12 passengers of private motor vehicles were listed among the fatalities during the quarter.

Child fatalities remained at three when compared with the similar period in 2025, while 15 elderly persons died in the second quarter, an increase of 35 per cent when compared with similar period in 2025.

Vulnerable road users – made up of pedestrians, pedal cyclists, motorcyclists and pillion passengers combined – accounted for 54 per cent of all second quarter fatalities. Overall, passengers accounted for 20 per cent of fatalities during the second quarter.

ITA said males and females accounted for 84 per cent and 16 per cent respectively of fatalities during the second quarter.
