KINGSTON, Jamaica—It has been 22 years since Kevin Lyttle hit international charts with the remix to Turn me On, which featured dancehall star Spragga Benz.

On Island Ting, the Vincentian singer goes for more success alongside another Jamaican, Charly Black.

The soca/dancehall song was released in early July. It is a joint production between Pop Style Music, Tarakon Records and Unstoppable Ent.

Island Ting is Lyttle’s latest collaboration with a Jamaican artiste. In addition to Spragga Benz, he has also worked with Shaggy.

Charly Black’s biggest hit, Gyal You A Party Animal, was a massive seller throughout South America in 2018.

In a 2019 interview with Caribbean Heritage Magazine, Lyttle spoke about the dynamics of dancehall and soca.

“The Caribbean is very diverse, all types of people born, raised and living on these islands. While dancehall is loved by many as well, it is distinctly Jamaican. Soca is more inclusive and is a constant on every island,” he said. “We Soca lovers are the ‘hippies’ of the Caribbean. When there is a soca party everyone is there. The atmosphere is all inclusive and the only rule is everyone should dance and have fun.”

Turn me On was initially released as a soca ballad in 2001. Three years later, the remix with Spragga entered the Top 10 of the British national chart, and peaked at number four on the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart, earning it a gold disc for sales of over 500,000 units.
