The native-bred three-year-old fillies take centre stage on tomorrow’s 10-race card with the 87th running of the $3.75-million Jamaica Oaks Classic over 10 furlongs.

The Futurity contest has attracted a field of nine runners including Jamaica 1000 Guineas winner
Dream Catcher.

Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at the runners and their chances of winning.

1. GULFSTREAM CAT: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Burning Clearance) – Gulfstream Cat looks outclassed here. She hasn’t shown the form to compete at this level.

2. DREAM CATCHER: (3 b f by Bern Identity – Double Jeopardy) – The one to beat. Dream Catcher has dominated her peers — Thornbird Stakes, Portmore Stakes, and Jamaica 1000 Guineas all in the bag. Dream Catcher was fifth by 10 lengths to the colts in the St Leger, but back against fillies only this should be a formality.

3. MINNEHAHA: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Red Gold) – Playing for places. Minnehaha was 4 lengths behind Tia Maria over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on July 11. With both Tia Maria and Dream Catcher in here, she’s up against it to win.

4. GIVING THANKS: (3 b f by Bern Identity – Lightning Lily) – Giving Thanks closed well for third place by 5 ¼ lengths behind Dream Catcher in the 1000 Guineas on June 6. This step up to 10 furlongs and two turns should suit her perfectly. Expect another honest run from Giving Thanks here.

5. ANOTHER WOW: (3 b f by Casual Trick – Sarah Barracuda) – Won going 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) on June 27. Another Wow has worked well since. The distance is the big question, but she’ll run a brave race.

6. TIA MARIA: (3 ch f by Bold Conquest – Zacapa) – Looks likely the main danger to the favourite here. Tia Maria announced herself with a dominant 4-length win in the Simply Magic Cup over 9 furlongs and 25 yards in 1:56.2 on July 11. She’s peaking at the right time and looks the only one likely to take it to
Dream Catcher.

7. LEXI LOU: (3 b f by Aveenu Malcainu – Herroyalhighness) – No form to suggest she can be competitive here.

8. TAYLOR MADE: (3 b f by Aveenu Malcainu – Another Fury) – The bridesmaid. Taylor Made finished second to Dream Catcher in both the Portmore Stakes and 1000 Guineas. If she sees out 10 furlongs, she’ll be thereabouts again for the minor money.

9. SKY IS THE LIMIT: (3 ch f by Bern Identity – Ransomware) – Won last time but faces a massive jump in class here. Hard to see her repeating.
