ST MARY, Jamaica — A male teacher was arrested on Saturday in connection with an illegal firearm and a woman was arrested for assaulting a police constable after a joint Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force(JDF) operation across Port Maria, Islington and Annotto Bay in St Mary.

Police reports are that the 10-hour operation involved over 100 personnel and targeted criminal activity through search warrants and vehicle checkpoints.

During a search at a premises in Albion Mountain, Port Maria, the police seized a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver, several rounds of ammunition, spent casings and a Glock magazine.

The 34-year-old teacher was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old self-employed woman of Frointer, Port Maria was charged with assaulting a constable and resisting arrest.

Ten other people were detained, questioned and later released pending further investigations.

Commanding Officer for St Mary, Superintendent Anthony Wallace, praised the team’s professionalism and reaffirmed the division’s commitment to removing illegal firearms.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to make St Mary a safer place for all residents and visitors,” Wallace said.
