The Nature of Luxury
We have mistaken luxury for indulgence and the privilege of owning beautiful things when it has always been about restoration.
Authenticity. Connection. The opportunity to return to ourselves.
When we understand the true nature of luxury, we begin to understand Jamaica.
We often first think of our music and food, and they should be celebrated. But perhaps Jamaica’s greatest gift lies beyond these.
For years we have measured ourselves against a rubric that didn’t count us, and somehow we believed it anyway. We look outward when so much of what the world, and we, are searching for has quietly existed here from the beginning of time.
The answer is simpler than many of us imagined. What if it is not found in the acquisition of the “finer” things, but, instead, in the things that restore the soul?
It is the way Jamaica invites us into moments of awe, beauty, and connection, and quietly restores us, without ever trying to manufacture the experience. And perhaps that is why Jamaica has always felt larger than itself.
A mile off the coast of Treasure Beach. Or even more simply, a few steps in your own backyard, picking a ripe Julie mango from the tree.
We have lived with it for so long, we stopped noticing.
Jamaica has always been enough.
