Ghana’s president arrives in Jamaica for official state visit
KINGSTON, Jamaica — President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has arrived in Jamaica for his official state visit.
President Mahama was received on Sunday evening at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith.
Mahama is a special guest of the Government of Jamaica for the nation’s emancipation and independence commemorations.
During his visit, he is expected to meet with Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen and Prime Minister Andrew Holness. He is also scheduled to address a special sitting of Parliament on August 4.
Jamaica’s official engagement with President Mahama and his delegation will begin with a welcome ceremony at King’s House on Monday (August 3).
Following the ceremony, President Mahama will pay a courtesy call on the governor-general and Lady Allen before engaging in bilateral discussions with the prime minister.
Both leaders will subsequently address the media during a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister at midday.
President Mahama will later participate in the Reparations Dialogue at the University of the West Indies, Mona Regional Headquarters, before rounding out the first day of his official engagements with a visit to Independence Village at the National Arena, where he will be received by Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange.
