Dothraki powers home to land $2-m BGLC Trophy
Dothraki (Into Mischief — Vanquished) confirmed his status as one of the country’s top sprinters on Saturday, August 1, 2026, storming home to win the 22nd running of the $2-million Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) Trophy over 5½ furlongs (1,100m) at Caymanas Park.
The five-year-old American-bred bay horse, trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Robert Halledeen, produced a late run to win the Open Allowance contest.
Ridden patiently, Dothraki sat behind California Crown and Tevin Foster through early fractions of 23.0 and 46.1. Turning for home, Halledeen angled him out and Dothraki found another gear in deep stretch.
Inside the final furlong he powered clear, winning by a length and three quarters in a sharp 1:05.0. Rainsville (Jaheim Anderson) finished second, with California Crown holding third. It was Dothraki’s third win on local soil and all three wins have come at 5½ furlongs.
It was another big-race score for the DaCosta barn, and a timely reminder of Dothraki’s class when right.
“He is ultra-talented. He’s plagued with a few problems, but once we get him right he’s as good as any,” DaCosta said.
Halledeen was full of praise for the effort.
“He was superb today. He was wonderful. He was well-presented by the trainer and the groom, and thanks to the team for this one,” Halledeen noted.
