Before the boutique, there were boarding passes, layovers and a career that kept her perpetually in transit. As a former Qatar Airways flight attendant, Denise Campbell spent years moving between cities and continents. Somewhere along the way, she developed an eye for the beautifully made.

When COVID grounded the planes, it didn’t ground her curiosity. She used the pause to pivot, transforming her love of discovery into Glowbe Shoppe, an online boutique filled with finds sourced from, among other places, India, Uganda, Kenya and Turkey.

Think: Limited-edition fashion and craft with a sense of place — pieces that can shift an outfit, punctuate a room or simply set the mood. Most arrive in deliberately small quantities, keeping the edit intimate and exclusive, while special orders give clients the freedom to veer off-script and commission something uniquely their own.

“Like any business, Glowbe Shoppe has had its peaks and its pits, and I think both are part of the journey,” Campbell tells
Tuesday Style Fashion (TSF). “What keeps me going is the response I get every time I meet new customers. They’re always excited by how unique the pieces are, and I hear just as many compliments about the way everything is presented.”

That reception, she says, has been particularly gratifying. “I’m proud that we often exceed what customers expect when they discover Glowbe Shoppe for the first time. For me, though, this is only the beginning,” she notes.

Campbell’s ambitions extend well beyond the traditional boutique model. She envisions Glowbe Shoppe evolving into “a cultural hub where people can discover beautiful pieces from Africa, Asia and Europe, learn the stories behind them, and experience something a little different”.

And so, the collecting continues. “I’m excited about what’s ahead and can’t wait to keep discovering new places, bringing home new finds and sharing those experiences with my customers,” she informs.

The aesthetic? Well-travelled, highly considered and decidedly not mass market. In other words, a suitcase full of really good finds — minus the baggage.
