Sensational Soul awarded Poorlittlerichgirl Trophy after Don Kwesi DQ
FOUR-YEAR-OLD chestnut colt Sensational Soul was awarded the fourth running of the $1.4-million Poorlittlerichgirl Trophy on Saturday, after on-track winner Don Kwesi was disqualified for a weight discrepancy.
Trained by Gary Subratie and ridden by apprentice Emelio McLean, Sensational Soul crossed the line second, 10½ lengths behind Don Kwesi, in the Open Allowance for three-year-olds and upward over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m).
But after a lengthy stewards’ inquiry Don Kwesi, ridden by Jaheim Anderson, had his colours taken down and placed out of the race. Sensational Soul was promoted to first and
Run Julie Run, ridden by Reyan Lewis, was moved up to second.
The official winning time was 1:41.4. (22.4 x 45.2 x 1:10.4 x 1:24.3).
I Love Birdie — bred, owned and trained by Fitzroy Glispe and ridden by veteran Everton Miller — easily won the $1.1-million Caymanas Park 1959 Trophy over one mile (1,600m).
I Love Birdie won by two lengths ahead of Minnehaha (Dane Dawkins) and Abudar (Tyrese Anderson) in a time of 1:42.0.
The $780,000 Caymanas Park 67th Anniversary Trophy over one mile was won by the Anthony Nunes-conditioned Nebuchadnezzar, ridden by Tyrese Anderson.
Nebuchadnezzar won by a neck ahead of Nephew (Omar Walker) and Princess Kris (Reyan Lewis). The winning time was 1:41.4.
The action continues with races on Saturday and Sunday.
