CPFSA locates child seen being physically and verbally abused in viral video
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) says it has located and safeguarded the female child who was seen being physically and verbally abused by an adult woman in a video that circulated on social media last week.
The CPFSA in a statement on Monday, said the child, along with her younger sibling, is now in the care and protection of the agency.
“The CPFSA will continue to work closely with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) as investigations into the matter continue,” the CPFSA said.
The agency extended appreciation to members of the public who provided information that assisted in locating the children.
“The response from the public demonstrates the important role that citizens can play in helping to protect children known to them by speaking up when they have concerns about their welfare. The CPFSA remains committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of both children and will continue to take all necessary steps in their best interests,” CPFSA said.
The agency reminded members of the public to report all known or suspected cases of child abuse by calling 211, the 24-hour child abuse reporting hotline.
Reports can also be made via WhatsApp or telephone at 876-878-2882 or 876-822-7031, by email at report@childprotection.gov.jm, or through the CPFSA’s social media pages at @cpfsajm.
