Moses I remembers his earlier days in the Papine/August Town area, going to dances and performing on sound systems like Black Star. He recalls rubbing shoulders with ‘area artistes’ such as Brigadier Jerry, Tiger, and Anthony Malvo.

As promoter of Papine Show Time, Moses I (real name Anthony Singh) is keen to recapture that community vibe.

The event, which takes place on August 29 at 27 Gordon Town Road, features several artistes from a thriving music scene in the 1970s and 1980s.

“Dis is supn fi di yutes who get left out, an’ di likkle yutes in di community wha’ know dem can do it. Wi jus’ haffi drive confidence inna dem head. Is a whole heap a talented yutes inna di area,” said Moses I in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.

This is the second staging of Papine Show Time, which is produced by Moses I’s Livon Music. The inaugural event, held in January 2025, was also dominated by regional artistes.

He and his son Jah Lando are among the artistes scheduled to perform at Papine Show Time. Others include Peter Metro, Commanche, Israel Voice, Joseph I, and Jah Bless.

After years of doing the sound system rounds, and recording songs for producers such as Philip “Fatis” Burrell, Moses I had a hit song in 1998 with Crazy Look. That song features Capleton, whose early career was also nurtured in Papine.

Moses I’s recent songs include Tribute To A Hero (Marcus Garvey Day).
