KINGSTON, Jamaica—Two men have been charged with possession of criminal property following two separate incidents in St James last week.

Charged are 30-year-old Michael Stewart, of Fullersfield, Grange Hill, Westmoreland, and Paradise, Norwood, St James, and 23-year-old Demar Atkinson, a construction worker of Top Edinburgh, Coral Gardens, St James.

Reports are that on Saturday, August 8, about 11:35 pm, Atkinson and another person, who were armed with a firearm, allegedly alighted from a motor vehicle and proceeded to rob several individuals of their property before escaping in the same motor vehicle with the stolen items. A report was made to the police and an investigation launched.

The motor car in which Atkinson was travelling, was reportedly later involved in a collision on the Ironshore main road in St James. A search of the motor vehicle was conducted, during which bags matching the descriptions of those reported stolen were found inside.

The items were identified by the complainants as their respective property, and Atkinson was charged.

In another incident, on Saturday, August 15, about 1:00 am, Stewart and another unidentified male, both armed with knives, allegedly robbed several individuals of their personal belongings on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard, Montego Bay, St James, before escaping from the area.

The incident was reported to the police, and an investigation launched.

An operation was reportedly later conducted at the last known location of one of the stolen iPhones. Stewart was found at the location in possession of the stolen properties that had earlier been taken during the robbery. Stewart was subsequently arrested and charged.

Their court dates are being finalised.
