KINGSTON, Jamaica—In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, the Sanmerna Foundation continued its efforts to help affected communities rebuild, this time turning its attention to the children of Mayfield Primary and Infant School in St Elizabeth.

The back-to-school initiative was strengthened by the generosity of Lisa White, a Jamaican based in Atlanta, who spearheaded a donation drive through Emory Healthcare, rallying support for children impacted by the hurricane.Through the drive, a significant quantity of school bags, books and educational supplies was donated and distributed to students, helping families facing the added financial strain of recovering from the hurricane while preparing for the new school year.

For the Sanmerna Foundation, the initiative represents more than handing out school supplies—it is part of the continued recovery effort, ensuring that even after disaster, children are given the tools and encouragement needed to return to the classroom with confidence.
