WITH Ethan Pinnock set to leave Brentford for Coventry City, the newly promoted side are set to have three Reggae Boyz in their squad, continuing Jamaica’s long-standing representation in the English Premier League.

Centre back Pinnock was unveiiled by Coventry yesterday, having completed his medical at the club’s facilities on Tuesday. Brentford agreed to sell the 33-year-old after accepting a £5-million ($1-billion) offer plus £1 million in add-ons from Coventry.

Pinnock, who joined Brentford in 2019, left the London-based club as one of the longest-serving players, making over 200 appearances, including 117 in the Premier League. He was a key piece when they received promotion in 2021 under Thomas Frank but was used sparingly under Manager Keith Andrews last season, making just four appearances.

Reports from England say Coventry Manager Frank Lampard wanted to bolster his backline and viewed Pinnock’s experience in the Premier League as key to the club’s bid for survival.

The defender, who has 28 caps for the Reggae Boyz since his debut in 2021, will become the third Jamaican international at Coventry, joining centre back Joel Latibeaudiere and winger Ephron Mason-Clark, who made his international debut under Rudolph Speid in March. Although the transfer window closes on Tuesday, all three are expected to remain teammates for the season.

Latibeaudiere, 26, was linked with English Championship club Derby County earlier this summer but was named on the bench in Coventry’s defeat to Arsenal on Friday, and played the full 90 minutes in their Carabao Cup second-round tie away to Plymouth on Tuesday.

Mason-Clark, 27, registered 10 goals and six assists in Coventry’s successful promotion last season. He returned from a hamstring injury to score in the win over Plymouth.

The Reggae Boyz maintain their presence in the Premier League for yet another year, albeit with the futures of winger Leon Bailey and left-back Rico Henry uncertain.

Bailey is set to leave Aston Villa after five years but his move to newly promoted Hull City has stalled for nearly a month.

The 29-year-old was seemingly on the verge of joining the club after not getting game time guarantees by Villa Manager Unai Emery. However, Bailey’s representative Craig Butler told the Jamaica Observer earlier this month that “details have to be worked out” while revealing that several clubs, reportedly from Europe and Saudi Arabia, were interested.

Jacob Tanswell of The Athletic reported on Monday that Bailey, who managed just three starts for Europa League champions Villa after cutting his Serie A stint with AS Roma short in January, was training on his own at the club’s training ground.

Henry’s future at Brentford appears more settled, with the defender playing 71 minutes in their Carabao Cup win over Birmingham City on Tuesday, after being named on the bench for the Premier League victory over Tottenham at the weekend.

However, he may fall further down the pecking order as Brentford close in on a deal to sign West Ham left back El Hadji Malick Diouf for a reported £37 million.

Henry, 29, made his debut for Jamaica against Trinidad and Tobago last November, and has been with the club since 2016. He has made 262 appearances, including 25 in the Premier League last season.

Bailey, Henry, Pinnock, Latibeaudiere and Mason-Clark will all be in contention to make interim Head Coach Speid’s squad for the start of the 2026-27 Concacaf Nations League A next month.

The Reggae Boyz will host Guatemala and Honduras at the National Stadium on September 25 and 28, respectively.

The top two teams from the group, which also features El Salvador, Suriname, and Martinique, will advance to the quarter-finals where they will face one of the four pre-seeded nations — Mexico, USA, Canada or Panama.
