ST JAMES, Jamaica — Registration is now open for the 2026 MBJ Charity Run/Walk, scheduled for Sunday, September 6, at Sangster International Airport in St James.

The event is organised by MBJ Airports Foundation Limited, the philanthropic arm of MBJ Airports Limited, operator of Sangster International Airport, and will be held under the theme “Supporting Academic Dreams”.

Registration closes September 1 and is available online at www.runningeventsja.com.

The 5K Run/Walk is marking its sixth year of supporting students and educational institutions across western Jamaica. Since its launch, the initiative has raised more than $71 million in educational grants, directly benefiting more than 3,300 students, with hundreds of others receiving indirect support.

Sharon Hislop-Holt, manager of commercial business development and marketing at MBJ Airports Limited and a director of the foundation, said funds raised from last year’s event were used to assist students and educational institutions affected by Hurricane Melissa.

“The $30 million raised from the 2025 staging came at a critical time and went directly towards supporting students and educational institutions rebuilding in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, predominantly across western and southern Jamaica,” she said.

Hislop-Holt said the support was particularly important because schools and other educational institutions in the affected regions experienced significant disruption.

This year’s initiative will continue to provide financial assistance for students pursuing their education, as well as for educational institutions.

“Every dollar raised brings us closer to helping another student stay in school. Over the years, we have seen the difference this initiative makes in communities, not just across the west, but islandwide. This year we are aiming to create an even greater impact,” Hislop-Holt said.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early for a warm-up session scheduled for 5:30 am, with the race set to begin at 6:00 am.

Signage will direct participants to designated airport parking areas and the MEET parking lot on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in Montego Bay.

Organisers have also announced a range of prizes, including hotel stays and airline tickets.

“These rewards are not limited to top finishers only, as bib numbers will be randomly drawn throughout the morning’s activities, giving every participant a chance to win amazing prizes,” Hislop-Holt said.

Registration fees are $2,500 for adults; $1,500 for children 12 and under; and $2,000 per person for groups of 15 or more. Event shirts are available separately for $2,500.

In addition to the Run/Walk registration, applications are now open for the MBJ Airports Foundation’s Education Grant Award. Students and community organisations seeking financial support can submit applications until September 30 through the online platform at www.mbjairport.com/mbj-charity-run/walk-grant-guidelines-application.

The Run/Walk is powered by Running Events Jamaica and supported by corporate sponsors and partners, including title sponsor the Airports Authority of Jamaica.

The foundation said the initiative is aimed at supporting educational opportunities for students in need while providing assistance to institutions and communities.
