Brazil’s Guto Miguel books semifinal spot in ATP Kingston Challenge 2
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Seventeen-year-old junior player Guto Miguel of Brazil advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Kingston 2 Lawn Tennis Challenge after beating American Andrew Fenty 7-5, 7-5 at the Liguanea Club on Thursday.
Miguel was joined in the last four by Andy Andrade of Venezuela, Rodrigo Mendez of Mexico and Aidan Mayo of the United States of America.
Miguel, ranked 850 in the world, out-battled 26-year-old Fenty, ranked 385 and reached a career high 227 in a match that lasted two hours and four minutes.
Miguel threw down four aces compared to Fenty’s two and won 71 per cent of his first serve in what was a very close encounter on Centre Court.
Meanwhile, number two seed Andy Andrade easily turned back Max Purcell of Australia 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 22 minutes.
On the Grandstand Court, Mendez saw off Miguel Toban of Colombia 6-2, 6-4 while Aidan Mayo won the American clash, beating compatriot Andres Martin 6-4, 6-4.
