Cari-Med Group, through their supplier Apotex Inc, officially launched a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) drug, Apo-Apixaban, at Pier 1 on the waterfront on August 20.
Apo-Apixaban is a prescription blood thinner (anticoagulant) that prevents and treats blood clots by blocking Factor Xa, an enzyme essential for clotting. Doctors commonly prescribe it to lower the risk of stroke in people with atrial fibrillation or to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
Dr Lewis, a renowned consultant cardiologist, presented on the use of DOAC’s in primary care to a captive audience of doctors from across western Jamaica.
