BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) — St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has arrived at an undisclosed medical institution overseas “without incident and is comfortably settled at the medical facility”, according to a government statement.

The statement from the Cabinet Secretariat did not disclose the facility or the country where the 49-year-old medical practitioner had been taken to, but said that he had arrived at the facility “alongside his family, where he is currently undergoing scheduled diagnostic tests and specialist assessments”.

“The attending specialists have consulted directly with the clinical team at the Joseph N France (JNF) General Hospital in Basseterre to review his medical records and coordinate his care plan. Prime Minister Drew remains in stable condition, fully alert and in good spirits as these evaluations proceed,” the statement added.

Earlier, the Government had confirmed that Prime Minister Drew had become “ill and was admitted to the Joseph N France General Hospital on the evening of Sunday, August 30, 2026”.

Acting Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley said in a nationwide broadcast on Monday night that he had spoken with the head of government before he departed from the twin-island federation and that the “leadership team remains unified and focused, and the business of the government and the nation continues without interruption”.

In its latest statement, the Cabinet said, “The prime minister and his family wish to convey their sincere gratitude to the citizens and residents of Saint Kitts and Nevis, as well as regional and international partners, for the support and prayers extended to them.”

“All government operations, along with social and economic activities across the federation, continue as normal under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Geoffrey Hanley and the Federal Cabinet of Ministers. Further updates will be issued by the Cabinet Secretariat as necessary.”

Meanwhile, Caribbean Community (Caricom) leaders have been expressing their concerns about their colleague’s health, with Caricom chairman and St Lucia’s Prime Minister Phillip J Pierre saying that he had been informed of his “colleague and friend’s” illness on Monday.

“I want to wish him a speedy recovery,” Pierre said, adding “So that he could continue to do the work of the people of St Kitts and Nevis.”

“This should serve as a wake-up call for us prime ministers who sometimes underestimate the stress and demands of our job,” Pierre said, adding, “I am sure he is surrounded by the love and concern of his family and friends.”

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley said, “Prime Minister Drew is a valued colleague, a friend and our Caribbean brother.”

“He and his family remain in our prayers, and we wish him renewed strength, healing and a full recovery. May God hold him in his care. We look forward to seeing him well again.”

Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchel said his government is “saddened to learn of the hospitalisation” of Prime Minister Drew, adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Prime Minister Drew and his family during this time.”

“We also stand with the Government and people of Saint Kitts and Nevis and join them in wishing Prime Minister Drew renewed strength, good health and a speedy return to his official duties.”
