MANY members of the JRC Jockeys’ Training School Class of December 2024 have steadily built successful professional careers at Caymanas Park. Now, three of its brightest stars have officially outgrown the saddle pad.

Leading the way is Clarendon’s own Tajay Suckoo from Lionel Town. As of Sunday, August 31, 2026, Suckoo has recorded 67 wins to top the graduate standings at Caymanas Park.

He’s not alone at the top. Suckoo is joined in the 60-win club by fellow Lionel Town rider Richie Shakes with 63 wins, and Demar Williams with 60 wins. That 60-win milestone is significant. It excludes the special apprentice races run during the training school’s development programme.

Once a rider hits 60, they lose the right to claim the apprentice weight allowance — the “bug” — and transition to full jockey status.

Since graduating just 20 months ago, the class has steadily made its mark at Caymanas Park. Suckoo’s rise has been the most eye-catching. The 67 wins put him in serious contention among the senior jockeys, not just the youngsters.

For all three, the loss of the bug means no more 4lb, 3lb, or 2lb allowances. From here on, they carry full weight and compete on equal terms with the established riders.

It’s the final step from prospect to professional. The JRC’s training programme was designed to fast-track talent, and this cohort has delivered.
