KINGSTON, Jamaica — Area Four police say they have seen remarkable successes across their divisions following intensified operations carried out over several days.

Head of the Area, Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps, said they have stepped up investigations and operations in the Corporate Area.

“The last few days have seen our efforts resulting in the
recovery of some four firearms. These were discovered in Kingston Western, Kingston Central and Kingston Eastern,”  Phipps told Observer Online.

The first firearm, a 9mm pistol,  was seized in Kingston Western after two men were shot and injured at the corner of Upper West Street and Drummond Street in Hannah Town.

Swift action and investigations by the police led to the seizure of the weapon and the arrest of a man suspected to be the shooter.

Phipps said the Kingston Central police subsequently conducted an operation on King Street, where a second firearm was recovered.

“We believe that this particular firearm was used by the gunmen in the first (Hannah Town) shooting,” he added.

In another incident, the Kingston Eastern police fatally shot a man who had earlier challenged them while they were on an operation in the Pondside area of 8 Miles in Bull Bay, St Andrew.

One pistol with a magazine containing eight cartridges was recovered from that incident.

In the final instance, police conducted an operation along Collie Smith Drive in Trench Town, West Kingston, where a 9mm pistol and four rounds of ammunition were recovered during a search. No arrest was made in connection with that find.

“It is clear that we are at a point where we will have to intensify our efforts across the divisions within Area Four, and we have embarked on that particular programme now,” Phipps said.

“We have seen some results, and we are anticipating greater results even as we intensify our efforts right across all our divisions.”
