The JIE/Clifton James Scholarship, valued at J$500,000 annually, was announced during Morgan’s keynote address at the opening of JIE/Loring Engineers’ Week 2026 at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).

Funded in partnership with private sector stakeholders, the scholarship will support UTech engineering students who demonstrate academic ability, financial need, and a commitment to contributing to Jamaica after graduation. Selection will balance academic performance, financial circumstances and a willingness to serve the country.

“This scholarship honours a dedicated professional while investing in the next generation of Jamaican engineers,” Morgan said. “A capable student facing financial hardship should have a fair chance to complete an engineering education and put that knowledge to work.”

He noted that Jamaica’s expanding infrastructure programme requires a growing pool of qualified, locally trained engineers to support the design, construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and other critical assets.

Morgan thanked Clifton James’ son, Antonio James, and the James family for agreeing to the scholarship, which recognises James’ contribution to Jamaica’s development over almost 25 years.
