Maverick seeks redemption in Louis Hitchins Cup
After failing to land a blow in the Winston “Fanna” Griffiths OD Classic on September 6, 2026, Maverick returns hoping to make amends in tomorrow’s $1.1-million Louis Hitchins Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park.
The race is a Restricted Allowance II contest for native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maidens) over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at each runner and their chances of winning.
1. RED THIRTYTWO: (3 b c by Hedge Fund – Roses For Elle) – Has not done anything of note since his maiden win on March 15. Form has tapered off and he is going to be left behind in this one.
2. JUVENTUS ONE: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Texas Missy) – Showed some early promise but has not progressed as expected. Juventus One is not expected to be a major player here.
3. MAVERICK: (3 b c by Aveenu Malcainu – Midnight In Paris) – Beaten by a nose by stablemate London Spirit in the Jamaica Derby (12 furlongs – 2,400m) on August 6 in a heartbreaker. Returned and flopped badly in the Winston “Fanna” Griffiths OD Classic (9 ½ furlongs – 1,900m) on September 6, finishing eighth by 35 lengths — a run best forgiven. Maverick drops drastically in class, back to 7 furlongs, which is much more suitable than the Derby and Classic trips. Facing lesser competition here, Maverick is expected to rebound with a victory among these.
4. ABUDAR: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Ship Sham) – Consistent runner who always gives his best at the races. Has been thereabouts in similar company and is expected to continue doing well. Should be in the mix for exotics.
5. CINDY’S RUSH (USA): (3 b f by Rushie – Tuberose) – Finished down the track in her debut run on August 29, but was reported to have been green. Has worked well since that outing and is poised to deliver a much better effort here.
6. ALWAYS BOURBON (USA): (3 gr/rn c by Always Dreaming – Bonbourbon) – Importee who makes his debut on local soil. Has been working well coming into this and is expected to run well first time out. Watch the betting.
7. NATIVE ISLE: (3 dk b/br c by Successful Native – Mary’s Gold) – A winner last time out which was a good effort. Going to find repeating against these an impossible task here as the level is tougher.
8. INFINITY STAR (USA): (3 b f by Greenpointcrusader – Batmizvah ) – His form is moderate so far and can safely be bypassed in this line-up.
9. GOD’S PLAN: (3 ch c by Aveenu Malcainu – Fearless Abbi) – Has been disappointing this season, going winless from six starts. However, on best form he has the talent to compete here and is expected to make a brave bid if he gets the right trip.
10. CODE RED: (3 ch c by Aveenu Malcainu – Eighteen Karat) – Has no chance of winning here.
11. PROSPERITY SEN: (3 b c by Aveenu Malcainu – Sencity) – Faces a tough task against these. Looks outclassed on current form.
12. FRATELLANZA: (3 b c by Gunnevera – Hal’s Mischief) – Drawn widest in 12, which is a major disadvantage over 7 furlongs. Cannot be recommended for a winning run from this post.
