Respect: ARC, 30 years
For Horne, however, this milestone was as much about the people as the business.
He paid tribute to his siblings, including Deputy Chair Charlotte Horne-Hayles, who has been with the company since its inception, and whom he credited with carrying responsibility across finance, administration and operations.
“Today, Ann [as she is affectionately called] is deputy chair of ARC! But that title does not fully describe the responsibility she has carried for 30 years. Ann, thank you!” he said.
His gratitude also extended to brothers Lackie, who “did whatever was necessary to keep the business moving”, as well as Manley and Junior, who in the early days drove trucks and sold zinc — sometimes calling out, “Zinc man! Zinc man! One, one sheet makes a roof!”
Horne, also paid tribute to his late mother, Alice Hilda Horne, who passed away recently at age 91, crediting her with teaching him much of what he knows about life, leadership, and facing adversity.
